(Director)
James came to Pencil-Sharp from a freelance background in teaching and editorial, subject-specialised in philosophy and religious studies, and later more broadly across a range of disciplines in the social sciences. He successfully managed Pencil-Sharp Editors from its small beginnings in 2003 until its transition to a private limited company in the summer of 2006.

Toby Ellis

(Production Manager)
After completing a Postgraduate diploma in Printing and Publishing at the London College of Printing Toby joined Haymarket Business Publishing in early 1996. Following this he worked in key management roles for two leading customer publishing companies – River Publishing and Citrus Publishing – and a non-departmental government agency – VisitBritain. He is an experienced procurement specialist with regard both domestic and international print and related markets as well as an accomplished project manager.

Kirsten Campbell

(Editorial Manager)
Kirsten joins the Pencil-Sharp team following a successful freelance career in ELT/ESL publishing. An experienced writer, editor and project manager, specialising broadly in education and specifically in ELT publishing, Kirsten came to publishing from the classroom, with a TEFL qualification from Trinity College, London. Until recently she taught alongside of her work in publishing. She is a published author of ESL textbooks for students, teachers and young learners. Her main market focuses are the UK, North America, Russia and China. Recent clients have included EF International Language Schools (Europe, North America, Australasia), Gemini.org (UK and Africa), Englishtown.com (Global) and English First (Russia, China and Indonesia). She is equally comfortable working with both online content and print materials.

Theresa Hare

(Freelance – Design and Technical Consultant)
Optima Information Design has been providing publishing support services to a wide range of mainly non-traditional publishing clients since 1993. Clients have included EMAP, Informa, RR Donnelley, Reuters, British Airways, Virgin Television, and Crowcon Instruments. Prior to this Theresa was Imaging Technology Consultant at Wang Belgium; Development Associate, Quality Assurance, at Wiggins Teape; and R&D Physicist, Group Technology Unit, for De La Rue – an in-house career spanning seven years.

Pencil-Sharp works with an extensive network of partner suppliers – from large studios to small teams and individual freelance suppliers – covering a wide range of technical skills and subject/media specialisms. All new suppliers are put through a rigorous series of checks at the point of admissions and once contracted, operate according to the SfEP Code of Practice and our own Pencil-Sharp procedures.
